Mandi Mellor
Operations Manager
Meet Mandi – Our Operations Manager and the Backbone of our Community! 💼
With 25 years of experience in the print trade, Mandi’s journey with us began through her children, who were participating in the sport. After volunteering at the club for 5 years, she took on the role of Operations Manager and has been a driving force ever since.
🏢 From leading the move to our new building and overseeing renovations to securing critical funding – including the 2012-inspired facilities funding and council support – Mandi has played a key role in shaping the future of our club.
As a gymnastics parent for 17 years, supporting her children’s journey from participation level to national competitions, Mandi has a deep understanding of our members’ needs. Managing over 1000 members and overseeing numerous events throughout the year, including our highly successful HW Invitationals, she ensures everything runs seamlessly. She loves working at WGC because of the opportunities for gymnasts to build a future with strong morals and values in a happy environment.
In 2016, Mandi was nominated for the BBC Sports Personality Unsung Hero Award for her outstanding contributions to the community, winning the North West category! 🏆
In 2018, Mandi, alongside our Welfare Officer Jan, was invited to Buckingham Palace as nominees for the prestigious Queen’s Award. This recognition was in honour of the extraordinary achievements they’ve made, ensuring a legacy for generations of gymnasts to come. 👑

Jan Heaton
Welfare Officer
Introducing Jan, our incredible Welfare Officer, who has been a part of WGC for over 35 years! 🌟
Jan started her gymnastics journey with WGC at just 9 years old and earned her first coaching qualification at 16. Though she went on to train as a teacher at university, Jan’s passion for gymnastics stayed strong. She reconnected with the club when her daughter, Kara, began training at 4, and she’s been a key figure ever since! 🧑🏫🤸♀
Having supported the club as a coach, particularly with the younger boys’ tumble groups, Jan also qualified as a tumble judge, enjoying the thrill of attending team tumble events. Her dedication led her to take on the role of Welfare Officer, combining her education experience with her commitment to providing a safe and positive environment for all children to achieve their potential.
In 2018, Jan, alongside our Operations Manager Mandi, were invited to Buckingham Palace as nominees for the prestigious Queen’s Award. This recognition was in honour of their extraordinary achievements and the legacy they've ensured for generations of gymnasts to come. 👑
A highlight of Jan's journey was securing funding for the relocation and development of our current performance centre, a project she and Mandi worked tirelessly on while both holding full-time jobs. Late nights and countless hours of paperwork made it all worth it when they saw the amazing space we now have today. 🏆💪
Today, Jan manages the welfare and safeguarding of our members full-time, grows our Gymdots section, supports building maintenance, directs our Young Leaders & Demonstrators, and handles external bookings. She also serves as a Coaching UK Safeguarding Tutor, sharing her knowledge to ensure the safety of gymnastics everywhere.
We are so lucky to have Jan on our team. Her dedication, passion, and tireless efforts make WGC a better place for everyone! 👏
